Genesis 13: 14-18
Today’s text is not strange to you as you are very familiar with Abram’s call and journey to the promised land. After what can be aptly called Lot’s betrayal, it would be understandable had Abram been down with emotions? After all, he was the one God called. He was the one who carried Lot with him. When strive came, Lot should have deferred to his uncle. But Lot grabbed the opportunity of Abram’s benevolence to choose the better part of the land. “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, even as the garden of the LORD…. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan ….(verses 10-11).
Many of us had gone through this kind of experience before. Many People we have helped or done favour before had turned against us; abused the opportunity and the relationship. We feel hurt. It is like everything had gone down. Some times one feels as if one can not go on again. You are so hurt so much that you don’t want to take further steps.
In times like this, what to do is not to sit by the rivers of Babylon and weep. No. Get up and get going. Until Jesus comes, People will hurt, disappoint or even wound you. They will make attemts to kill your dreams or do something or say something to stop or slow you down. That is their ministry. Your own ministry is to stand up and get going. No matter how deep the wound or even the resultant set-back, get up and get going. Remember what God told Samuel after Saul misbehaved? And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
That is it! How long will you mourn over past hurts, disappointments, offences etc.? Will you tie your life to the failures of past relationships and virtues! Far from it. Get up, fill your horn with oil, there is a David waiting to be anointed. Forget Saul. Saul is past. David is the future. Go for David. It is important you arise and take steps into that future. Stay tuned in the next few days as we discuss how to chart a new course for the rest of your life.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to get over and live above past disappointments and hurts.
