Genesis 13: 14-18.
You are welcome back to these pages. Yesterday we started the series “Get up and get going” using the life of Abram as example. Lot had departed from Abram. As Abram was mourning or ruminating over the disappointment and hurt, the word of Lord came to him. “And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever”. Genesis 13:14-15
The essence of what God told Abram here can b e paraphrased as follows: Come on Abram! Stop mourning over a broken relationship. It is over. Catch a new vision. Whatever you can envision, I will empower you to get. Look around you, all you see is what you get”. All Abram needed then was a new vision. We say the same thing to you today. Stop missing who you no longer need. If he/she had departed, it means he/she is not needed. They are now history. Yes they are history. They are part of the past: the pains they caused, the joys you shared were for that time! May be they were good while they lasted. It does not mean you should be permanently tied to the apron strings of one who had cut you off.
Your past is past. Keep it there. Now catch a new vision. Don’t allow those who are no longer in your life dictate what happens and what your life should be. Your success is not dependent on them. You don’t need their approval to make it in life and destiny. Now get this right. God does not consult your enemy before He blesses you. Learn how to manage the exit of people in your life.
What should you do to chart a new course? The first step is to connect with God. God spoke to Abram. The word propelled a vision. In the place of prayers and meditation (study of the word and fellowship), God will give you visions of a better tomorrow and what to do today to get there. Like Habakkuk, you must learn to access heaven’s “website” and make divine downloads for your life.
I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
(Habakuk 2: 1-4) God has good plans for you. Remember Jeremiah 29:11? Yes; his plans are good not of evil. Don’t just imagine what God has in mind for you. Seek it. Discover it and then pursue it. It is not about what God showed your neighbour. It is about you. He loves you and has distinct plans for you. You can only prosper where he shows, leads and places you!
MEDITATION: His plans for me are good! Even better than what I have lost!
