THE LORD IS OUR DELIVERER

Esther 3:1-14; Esther 4:14

We are often faced with issues and challenges in life that threaten our faith in God, but it is important to have firm faith in him and trust in God in every circumstance. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding; seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

In Esther 3:1-14, we saw the faith of Mordecai, a mere slave who chose not to bow to Haman who was the second-in-command to the king. Everyone in the court bowed to Haman, but Mordecai, stood his ground and refused to bow to him. People came to him and told him he was foolish, he was disobeying the king by refusing to bow but he refused to bow.

Haman, in his wickedness, did not just target Mordecai, he attempted to wipe out the Jews because of what he perceived as the defiance and arrogance of one man. Mordecai knew his life was at stake, and soon he got to know that the Jewish community was also in danger of being wiped out. However, instead of running to bow to Haman or scheming to save his life, he ran to God. He didn’t even put his trust in Esther. In Esther 4:14, he told his niece that if she failed to act, deliverance would surely come for the Jews from another source. As Christians, we should always know that deliverance will surely come when we are in God’s will. God always shows up for His own.

True to type, and as expected, God delivered Mordecai and all the Jews. He did not just deliver them, he honoured them. He used the situation to settle the old score He had with the Amalekites when He wanted to wipe them all off from the face of the earth when Saul saved Agag in disobedience, 1 Samuel 15:8. Haman is a descendant of Agag. God’s judgement upon the Amalekites was complete because of Mordecai’s trust in God. We can also talk of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who saw the furnace of fire heated seven times over, and they went in trusting God for deliverance. They went a step further to say they would enter the fire even if God didn’t deliver them. Even if God failed to show up in the fire, they placed more premium on their souls which no earthly fire could touch. Today, Saint of God, choose not to bow because of pressure because God truly delivers. Dearly beloved, even in the face of serious crisis, don’t panic and don’t bow to the enemy, the Lord’s deliverance is SURE.

PRAYER: LORD, thank you for being my deliverer.
