HELP THE POOR AND VULNERABLE
Psalm 41: 1-3
In times like these, we ought to consider the poor and the vulnerable. When we ignore this set of people, God himself will ignore us. Proverbs 21: 13 warns that: “Whose stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.” If you will hear the cry of the poor, you will not need to cry before God answers. He is a covenant-keeping God. We have the assurance that, “Blessed is he that considereth the poor…thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.”
God made Job’s bed in sickness, according to His promise in Psalm 41. “Blessed is the man who considereth the poor…” Since he wants others to live, God will not let him die. There is no one who cares for the poor who will not live to fulfill the number of his days. Ministering to the poor puts us in God’s action plan. Ensure that you constantly reach out to the poor. I would like you every time you go to church to remember that there are some poor people in the midst of God’s people who need to be touched and helped. Jesus said “… ye have the poor with you always…” (Mark 14: 7). Determine to put a smile on the face of somebody today. Blessings accrue to those who assist the poor:
- He is blessed of the Lord
- The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.
- The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive in famine and in hard times.
- God will prosper him and cause his land to yield maximally.
- God will not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
- The lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing
- The Lord will make his bed in his sickness; that translates to healing him fast should he fall ill.
PRAYER: LORD, help me always consider the poor around me. Make me sensitive to their needs.
