Luke 15:  11-24

We are still on this matter of getting up and getting going.  We have seen how disappointed Abram was after Lot’s departure.  But then God himself appeared to Abram and instructed him to put the past behind him and move ahead in his destiny.  His vision was renewed and he kept going.

Today we are looking at another character and one of the most popular bible characters: the prodigal son.  He had noone to blame for his predicament. He chose his destiny. He demanded his inheritance up front. But then, he got his money and did “Fine Boy” with it.  His fair weather friends were there when he had money.  As soon as they helped him to squander his inheritance, they all disappeared.  His house rent expired.  He could not pay.  He had to sell his car and many other valuables to keep up the image of a young millionaire.  Until they all finished.  Then his friends took flight.   He looked for them but they were not there for him.  No job was available except as a swine-herd!  Suffering, with loneliness became his portion.  Until he “came to himself”

I don’t know what misfortune had happened to you before and you are still carrying the scars and the load of unpleasant memories.  People you thought would be there for you refused to rise for you.  They even antagonize?  Relax, pick yourself up like the prodigal son did.  He gave himself an honest assessment and concluded he needed to retrace his steps to the father.  You may need to “come to yourself” like him.  He preached (encouraged) to himself; made an “altar-call” and answered it.  He took steps.

Beloved, no matter how you have missed it, it is never too late to go back to your father.  Forget the people who disappointed or refused to be there for you.  Put them or the circumstances behind you.  They are your past.  Deal with the situation with your Father in heaven and take steps he would direct you. Get up, get going.  God is waiting to back you up.

MEDITATION:  He came to himself!
