TEACHING FATHER; LISTENING SONS

Proverbs 4:1-10

It is the responsibility of the father to teach his son the proper ways to behave in order to be a responsible man in the future, not only his son but his daughters as well. A real man does more than contribute to procreating a child. It is his duty to mold that child all through his growing years with love and forgiveness, discipline and correction, instructions and guidance etc.

A major responsibility of parents toward their children is to motivate them to wisdom especially in a world saturated with foolishness, recklessness and nothingness. Indeed, God has specific plans and purposes mapped out for His children. But to discover and manifest these plans and purposes require godly wisdom, counsel and strict adherence to God’s instructions. This can only be achieved when the father consciously fulfills this role in the life of his children not only in words but through exemplary living.

Most especially, we all need cordial relationship with our Father, God. God uses the prototype of the home and the relationship between the earthly father and son to teach us how he wants us to relate to Him. It is possible to experience the ultimate father-child relationship with our Heavenly Father. God desires to nurture and raise us, teach and educate us, even more than our earthly father desires. God wants us to be at our best always and to fulfill purpose on earth. Achieving this however requires that we are true ‘sons’ of our heavenly Father. You can only display and express true sonship with your total obedience to God’s instructions as laid down in His Word, the Bible.

Memory Verse: “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:14 & 15).

PRAYER: Help me Dear Lord that I will not fail in my parental duty of raising godly seed.
