BE DILIGENT

Proverbs 10: 2-6

In life, there is no shortcut to success.  Those get rich quickly schemes don’t last. It is the hand of the diligent that makes rich. No matter how much a person can pray and fast for wealth, if he does not work diligently with his hands, it will all end in futility. Even if such a person hits a jackpot in a way, it will never last as it will fizzle away in no time.

Christianity does not in any way condone laziness, slothfulness or idleness. God Himself teaches our hands to work. The scripture says he that will not work should not eat (1 Thessalonians 3:10). Idleness or laisser-faire attitude will not take anyone far. Such a person will just get by, living on the average lane in life. But a diligent man stands out. This is the quality that is needed for excellence in life.

The call to diligence is not a call to labour without matching result. It is a call to apply care and efforts to whatever you do. It is not enough to just work hard. You must get it right. Not just dissipating energy that will not yield commensurate fruits. The truth of the matter is that hard work does not always culminate into success or excellence. Hard work can be synonymous with hardship. That is not your calling in Christ. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 10:15 that “The labour of the foolish wearies them because they do not know how to get to the city”. There is the How To. That is the path of diligence, working smart, being efficient, effective, and timely in carrying out assignment and creative persistence. Don’t be as the Foolish. Apply diligence to your labour for excellent result.

Memory Verse: “Let all things be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40) “The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be put to forced labour” (Proverbs 12:24).

PRAYER: Lord I make a commitment to be diligent in all my ways. Bless thou the works of my hands.
