PUTTING GOD’S GRACE TO WORK V

John 21:3-18

As we continue our study about enjoying the Grace of God in our lives, we reflect today another requirement, which is understanding fully and clearly the assignment of God for our life. In our text, we see exactly the experience of Peter the Apostle in his journey to fully fulfil his call to be a ‘fisher of men’ rather than fishing fishes. This story recalls that right after Jesus had left the disciples and ascended to heaven, Peter said to many of colleague disciples, ‘I go back a fishing’ and they also said “we will go with you”. And then Peter took them and went to the river to try to catch fishes. But the Bible recorded that that night they toiled tremendously and caught nothing. After labouring all through the night and having nothing to show, Jesus showed up on the scene and then intervened in their situation.

After leading them to catch fishes, Jesus turned to have a very interesting conversation with Peter in that passage. From verse 15, the Bible says:

so when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than this? He said unto him, Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my lamb. He said to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He said unto him, Yea, Lord thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my sheep. He said unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things. Thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep. Verily, verily, I say unto you, when thou was young, thou guided yourself and walked wither thou wouldest. But when thou shall be old, thou shall stretch forth thy hand and another shall guide thee and carry thee whither thou would not.

So this was Jesus correcting Peter, bringing him back to the place of destiny. We will later read about Peter in the Acts of Apostles after the experience in the upper room, that he ministered in one day and several thousands of people were saved because now he understood the call of God upon his life and has decided to walk in it (Acts 2:14-47).

Our question to you today is: What is God calling you to do? Have you asked yourself this question? What is the real reason why you are here on earth? Are you on earth just to eat and to drink and to wear good clothes and to drive good cars, get married and have children, to build goodly houses and then at the end of the day end your life like that? No! there is a much bigger purpose for which you exist. To be able to enjoy the fullness of God’s grace manifesting in your life, you need to know exactly what is the reason for your existence. As you know and commit yourself to it, you will begin to see a greater dimension of God’s grace manifesting in your life. This day we would like you to pause and ask that question “Lord what am I living for?”

PRAYER: LORD, Show me the purpose of my existence so that I can commit myself to it and as I commit myself to it I know you will stand by me you will make all grace abound to me to enable me fulfil the fullness of your purpose in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
