CONSIDER IT A PRIVILEGE
Psalm 50: 1-15
Each time you give an offering, you are not doing God any favour. Neither are you helping Him. It is not that God is in need. He is not broke. He is not in want. He is not hungry or in need of any material thing. It is not that He has a project that He needs your money to complete. No matter how rich or wealthy you are, what you have is just but a pin drop in the ocean of God’s vastness.
Consider this. He owns every beast in every forest in the world. How many animals can you rear? He owns the silver and the gold everywhere on this planet. Compare that to the tiny jewelry you have. All the things the world reckons as measures of wealth are his. The wealthiest among us is like a school boy offering out of his pocket allowance to a multi-billionaire and boasting how much he has helped he rich man!
If you have this understanding, it will enable you to approach giving to God with a new attitude. If you give to God, it is a great privilege. What do you have that he did not give you in the first instance? Did you not come to this world naked? Whatever you have, he gave you. Whatever you are, he made you. Wherever you are, he placed you. You are only giving back to your source. You should consider it a privilege. The source does not need the river; it is always the other way round. The river that forgets its source will run dry. For you not to run dry, you must service your source with humility and joy. This is the secret of continuous flow.
Again, you must see your giving as a blessing waiting for you in the future. Offer unto God thanks-giving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me, Psalm 50: 14-15. Whatever you give is a deposit and insurance into your future. When trouble comes and you call upon God, He will answer you and deliver you. That is why the psalmist had the boldness to declare that “the Lord hear thee in the day of trouble, send thee help from the sanctuary, and . . . remember all thy offerings” (Psalm 20:1-3). Seeing then that our offering is not a help to God but to yourself, we charge you to give willingly, joyfully and bountifully. It is not only a privilege to give unto the Most High God who needs nothing from us but also a means of helping ourselves.
MEDITATION: Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.
