MEAT OFFERING
LEVITICUS 2:1-16
Today’s reading is about the Meat Offering. Some translations call it the Grain Offering. Both are correct as the offering is concerned with bringing food items to the House of God. It is a simple offering. It is also a voluntary act of worship on the part of the Israelite. One brings any good item – grain, fine flour, bakery products, incense, olive oil etc into the House of God. The priests collect it and take a handful to be burnt as a memorial before the Lord. The rest of the offering belongs to Aaron and his sons
As already stated, this is also a voluntary act of worship not specifically demanded by God but regulated by Him. It is made in recognition of God’s goodness and provisions. It is also a way of ministering to the needs of the servants of God, the priests. Only a handful of it is burnt as a memorial before the Lord. The remaining that is kept by the priest is considered as most holy among the offerings made to the Lord.
The Lesson from the Meat/Grain offering is simple. It is a devotion to the Lord as well as a ministration to the servants of God. It is still very relevant today. As a child of God, you can allow him to use you to cater for His servants. Their feeding, clothing, children school fees etc. are yearning to be met. As God blesses you, let your Man of God and his family eat out of your sweat. It commands its own blessing. God recognizes it and considers it as holy.
