THE CHARACTERISTICS OF LOVE
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
In continuation of the love series’ subject, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes the characteristics of love, to include patience, kindness, and humility. These qualities are the hallmarks of a mature believer, and they are the foundation of healthy relationships.
As believers, we’re called to embody these qualities in our relationships and interactions. This means being patient with others, even when they’re difficult or frustrating. It means being kind and compassionate, just as Jesus was (Matthew 11:28-30). It means being humble and gentle, recognizing that we’re all not perfect (that is). We are all in need of God’s grace (Philippians 2:3-5).
As we focus on developing these qualities, we’ll become more like Jesus, and our relationships will be transformed. We’ll become better spouses, parents, friends, and colleagues, and we’ll make a positive impact on our communities.
Let’s take a moment to examine our lives. Are we patient and kind, or are we critical and judgmental? Are we humble and gentle, or are we proud and arrogant?
Can someone come to Christ just studying the virtues of Christ we possess? You can take a step of grace today and activate the love of God as you shine forth Christlike qualities. We need to get to that point where when people meet with us, they can truly see God’s nature at work.
This may take you some sacrifices of staying in the place of prayers asking God for grace; reading the word of God and listening to the directive of the Holy Spirit for perfect guidance on every matter of live.
PRAYER: “Lord, help me to be patient and kind, even in difficult situations. May I reflect Your love and character in all I do. Give me the strength to be humble and gentle, and help me to prioritize these qualities in my daily life. Amen.”
