GIVING THANKS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES
1 Thessalonians 5:18
It is easier sometimes to remember the needs that are yet to be met than to remember to say thank you to God for all His goodness to us. God is not under any prerogative to hear and answer your prayers. He has only chosen to extend mercy to you and yours. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” As believers, we’re called to cultivate a heart of gratitude, giving thanks to God in every situation and circumstance.
Giving thanks in all circumstances doesn’t mean that we’re to be thankful for everything that happens, but rather that we’re to be thankful in every situation, trusting that God is working all things for our good (Romans 8:28). It’s a call to surrender our will and desires to God’s sovereignty, recognizing that He’s got a plan and a purpose for our lives.
Let’s take a moment to examine our lives. Are we giving thanks in all circumstances, trusting God’s sovereignty and goodness? Are we cultivating a heart of gratitude, recognizing God’s blessings and provision in our lives?
Some practical ways to apply this verse include keeping a gratitude journal, sharing thanks with others, and praying prayers of thanksgiving. We can also reflect on God’s goodness and faithfulness in the past, trusting that He’ll continue to work all things for our good.
For example, we can thank God for the gift of salvation, for the promise of eternal life, and for the assurance of His presence and guidance. We can also thank God for the people in our lives, for the opportunities we’ve had, and for the lessons we’ve learned.
Always make it a mandatory thing to give thanks to God. It would have been worse but for His mercies. If you have lost anything at all, He is the reason you have not lost everything. So be thankful. Thank God and those He has sent to your life to help you. To be ungrateful is not just bad but evil! [You know God hates evil. Don’t be part of the statistics of evil people thereby pinching yourself against God in battle].
MEDITATION: I choose to be thankful always. My password to Gods presence daily will be “thank -you.”
PRAYER: “Oh Lord, help me to give thanks in all circumstances, trusting Your sovereignty and goodness. Give me a heart of gratitude, recognizing Your blessings and provision in my life. Help me to surrender my will and desires to Your plan and purpose, and to trust Your promises and plans for my life. Amen.”
