GUARD YOUR MOUTH
Proverbs 13: 1-3
The mouth is a small part of the body but is capable of wreaking havoc as much as it can bring good. It must therefore be tamed to produce good fruits. It is the responsibility of man to ensure that he uses his mouth for positive values. The words that we speak have the capacity to influence other people’s life, either positively or negatively. They are seeds that produce result whether immediate or in the future. Verse 3 says, “He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life”.
Words are important, after all, God created the heaven and the earth with spoken words. God spoke it and it came to pass. Words have potency. It is inherent in you and expressed in the words you speak. Your words can either be productive or destructive, cutting between life and death. When we speak negatively, we sow impure seeds. And when we speak positive words, we sow good seeds.
With this at the back of your mind, strive to be productive with your words. Words have been compared with raw egg, once dropped, it can never become whole again. So, you need to watch your words. You should yield your mouth to God for effective management by putting it under God’s control. Allow Him to put new and productive words in your mouth. Rather than curse people, bless them with your mouth. Speak wholesome words. Let the lyrics of the Hymn: “Take my Life and Let it be, Consecrated, Lord, to Thee” be your watchword. The hymn is particularly relevant as the third verse commits the mouth to God: “Take my Lips and Let them be Filled with Messages for Thee”. If these words become your watchword, you can never go wrong with your mouth.
Memory Verse: “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:20-21).
PRAYER: Personalize and pray the Memory Verse.
