WISDOM VS. FOLLY
Proverbs 9:10-18
There is only a thin line between Wisdom and Folly with lots of similarities. They are both calling out for your attention. The difference is in what they are offering and the type of life that results in following each of them.
The responsibility to choose either of the two is yours. It is important that you weigh the offer and end result before you make your choice. All that glitters is not gold. Verse 17 says: “Stolen water is sweet. And the bread eaten in secret is pleasant”. Indeed, it is easy to be misled that foolishness is wisdom. Christians are enjoined to test all spirits in order not to fall prey to the antics of the enemy. The devil is indeed cunny and he will present his counterfeit which would indeed appear as original, leading to the “depths of hell” (Verse 18b).
If you are wise and live wisely, it is to your own advantage. This is clearly stated in Verse 12: “If you are wise, you are wise for yourself. And if you scoff, you will bear it alone”. And by wisdom, your days will be multiplied and years of life will be added to you (Verse 11). So, never think that the call to embrace God’s wisdom instead of your own foolishness is contributing to God being God. No. the call is to make you a better person and to help you fulfill divine counsel.
Even though God uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise, He has not called the foolish things to remain foolish. There must be a difference in your life to show that you have been with the Lord. Your folly must be transformed to reflect the new life you have received through Christ.
Memory Verse: “Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise” (1 Corinthians 3:18).
PRAYER: Dear Father, grant me grace to always be guided by you to make the right choices in life.
