Ruth 4:1-22
As noted in our last reading, Ruth’s story is amazing. We met her in chapter one as a helpless, childless and hopeless widow. But in this chapter, she has become the lord of the manor. She is now the wife of Boaz and a mother. Not just a mother but great grandmother of David the king and by extension of Jesus, the Lord. Wow! What a great turn around. She remains one of the few women named in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. And she was a gentile.
Ruth was not just a gentile, but a Moabitess. If you check the Bible very well, you will discover that Moab was a cursed land and a cursed people, (Isaiah 25:10, Jeremiah 48:42). Yet, this woman of Moab; this widow became not just a woman of substance, but great great grandmother of the Messiah of the whole world.
If God can be this merciful and gracious to Ruth, then your case is not hopeless. You shall get to the place of your dreams. You are a child of God. You are redeemed and washed by the blood of the lamb. You have the Holy Ghost as your companion, teacher and comforter. With these, you cannot fail. Your case is not a write – off. You are getting to the top. After all, your case is not as terrible as that of Ruth. Even if it is, God is greater than all your troubles. And He is merciful and gracious. Precious possibilitarians look up to Jesus in hope. Put your trust in him. Seek direction from him. But don’t just sit down. This year is not one for idle believers. It is for diligent folks. As already instructed, you must put your creative skills to work. Put your mind to work. What you need to be who you ought to be is within you. Work it out in your mind. Let the Holy Spirit guide you. He helps our infirmities. You are a god and if God your father created, you also must create.
Finally, Ruth didn’t just sit there waiting for something to happen. She knew that the days of manna were over. She went out there and did something. You too should get up and do something with your hands. God is faithful; he will bless the work of your hands. Your shall get there. See you at the top. You shall be numbered among the great.
PRAYER: The top is not crowded yet, O Lord, take me there.
