THE LAW OF VISION
2 Kings 6:15-17
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” – Proverbs 29:18
Life is intentional. Nothing just happens; everything begins with a picture of what you want your life to look like. A Vision is the picture of your future. A clear image of what you want your career to be like, the type of house you want to live in, the kind of home you want to have, the sort of decorations you want in your space, even down to the sort of relationship you want around you. You can’t leave anything to chance or happenstance. You have to have seen a vivid picture for you to bring it to reality. You can’t live in a future you can’t picture.
The place of vision in the fulfilment of purpose is vital. Your sight is what determines where you are heading to. Life could be challenging for persons with sight disability. How much more for a man who lacks vision. Helen Adams Keller, a profound American author, who lost her sight and her hearing at 19 months old after an illness said “The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight but no vision.” There can never be anything worse than being visionless. Such a man would live aimlessly. No wonder Elijah prayed for his servant, saying, “Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see”. The servant’s perspective changed the moment God granted Elijah’s plea: “And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” – 2 Kings 6:17. His confidence was restored.
Vision is key to living a meaningful and fulfilling life. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish”. Your ability to “see” determines your outcome in life. Your “sight” determines how far you will go in life. Vision propels; it gives strength; it motivates and encourages; it energizes and brings hope; it creates a disciplined life, it gives focus until the vision manifests. No wonder Habakkuk instructs: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry”. It provides direction like the compass in a ship. If your life lacks vision, you will be directionless. There won’t be anything you are living for. In your life, it will be anything goes. And more deadly is the fact that there won’t be anything to measure growth and progress.
MEDITATION: The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight but no vision.
