OUR STRONG TOWER

Proverbs 18:9-12

A strong tower is a structure that men build to protect and defend their cities. It is where the besieged run to, to be safe from harm. At some points in our lives, we are faced with fearful situations that cause us to fret and want to literally run for cover. Such situations lead people to seek security in many things, material, wealth, guards, relationships etc.

As Christians, we take refuge in the name of the Lord. Just as the Scripture declares: “Some trust in chariots, and some trust in horses: but we will remember (trust) the name of the Lord our God” (Psalms 20:7). This position is reiterated by the Psalmist in Chapter 32:7 which declares; “Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance”.

We all must get to that point in life where we are sure that our safety lies with God. Even the present day Nigeria has taken us all to that place with insecurity everywhere. There is nowhere that is safe in this country, North, South, East or West.  On daily basis, we are woken up with news of attacks and abductions here and there. Is it the case of ritual killings that have permeated every nook and crannies of the Nation that we want to talk about? The fact of the matter is that Nigeria is not alone in this. There is danger everywhere!

The only safe haven is God. The rock we can run to that guarantees safety anytime. Be rest assured that God is watching over you morning, noon and night. Don’t allow the troubles of this world to overwhelm you. His eyes are over you. This is what we believe and confess from time to time when we declare that: “The Lord of host is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge”. He is your strong tower.

Memory Verse: “For you have been a refuge for me, a tower of strength against the enemy” (Psalm 61:3).

PRAYER: In You oh Lord do I take refuge. Hide me in your secret place from evil.
