MAKING GOOD DECISION

Proverbs 21: 2, Gen 13:10-12

Today’s reading brings to mind the choice of Lot as recorded in the book of Genesis. Lot was the nephew of Abraham. Abraham took him along when God told him to embark on the journey of destiny. In the course of their sojourn, his uncle became very wealthy. And I am sure that Lot too contributed his own quota to his Uncle’s business. The Bible noted in 2 Peter 2:7-8 that Lot was a righteous man. He must have learnt a lot from Abraham, his Uncle.

When it was time for them to part ways, Lot was faced with options. He applied what he thought best and made the best decision according to his own judgment. On the surface, considering the greenery of the area, Lot’s choice appeared to be a good one. But as good as it seemed, Lot’s choice resulted in much sorrow and hardship. He suffered war, kidnapping, oppression, loss of wealth and life (his wife). He was tormented by the people of Sodom and involved in incest with his daughters.

The choices we make in life have great effect on our lives. Some of the effects may be irreversible. This is why we must not trivialize decision making. Making good decision is one of the most important things required in life as it can make or mar one’s destiny.

To make the best decisions in life, ask God for wisdom, consult the word of God, seek counsel, discus your alternatives with trusted men of God and be guided appropriately

Memory Verse: “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14).

PRAYER: When the chips are down, dear Father, guide me in the right direction.
