IF YOU WANT GOD TO HELP YOU II
Genesis 35:1-12
We are continuing with our consideration of the conditions for obtaining God’s help as outlined by Jacob to his household.
Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob, Genesis 35:2-5
Be Clean: Live your life without blemish. Do away with sin. Stop playing with sin. He that sins is of the devil. Since you are not of the devil, why must you go on sinning? Live an upright life. It enables God to help you.
Change Your Garments: Yes. You must put off filthy garments and put on clean ones. Put on the righteousness of the Lord in Christ Jesus. Live as the light of the world that you are.
Make There An Altar Unto God: This is the altar of praise and of prayer. Don’t live your life without fellowshipping with the Lord. Walk with God as well as work for him. Be in close relationship with your maker.
If you do these things, God will help you. After Jacob’s household did them, God put the fear of them on surrounding nations. He helped them against their enemies.
