THE BLESSING OF THE LORD
Genesis 27:1-4, 28-29
We were told in our previous readings that Blessings abound from the Lord for you this season. It is not singular but plural. It is in multiples! And it is without limits: boundless! It shall not be restricted. They shall be in multiples and in large sizes. When we talk of being boundless, it means continuous, limitless, enlarging, big and several. You shall witness the dimension of boundless blessings this year and beyond.
Have you ever wondered what is the mystery of blessing? Why for instance did Jacob had to scheme for it and Esau cry bitterly for missing it? You shall be blessed. You shall never miss your chance to be blessed. Blessing is a multidimensional word. It is an all-encompassing word that encapsulates virtually all the goodness of God in the life of man. When God made man, the first thing God gave man is the blessing, Genesis 1:27-28:
So God createdmankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground
And so man was launched forth on the platform of blessing. Why is blessing so important? For reasons of space and time, we would not go into details. Suffice to say that seven things accompany the phrase “God bless you”. When God blesses you, seven great things are activated to work in your life and situation. In the mood of this season in our devotional, it will do you a whole lot of good to identify these blessings and appropriate them into your life.
FAVOUR: When a man is blessed, he is automatically favoured. Blessing itself is a function of favour. To be favoured is to be preferred. When Isaac blessed Jacob, he told Esau: Behold, I have made him thy Lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants: and with oxen and wine have I sustained him, and what shall I do now into thee, my son?
In other words, Jacob had been blessed and he would always be favoured above Esau in all their generations. We can see the difference today in the lineage of Jacob and that of Esau. Without the dimension of blessing, one is reduced to struggling and strife to get what the other gets on the platform of favour. “And by thy sword shall thou live, and shalt serve thy brother” (verse 40). May you be favoured in Jesus Name.
MEDITATION: The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich.
