GOD’S COMPASSION AND FORGIVENESS

Micah 7:18-19

Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our iniquities underfoot and hurl all our sins into the depths of the sea. – Micah 7:18-19

God’s nature of love, compassion and forgiveness has always been shown from creation till date. As believers, we’re called to recognize the depth of God’s compassion and forgiveness, and to respond with gratitude and repentance.

God’s compassion and forgiveness are not just attributes, but the very heart of His nature. He delights in showing mercy, and His anger is temporary, giving way to His loving-kindness. This means that we can trust God’s forgiveness to be complete and final, with our sins cast into the depths of the sea, forgotten and forgiven.

Let’s take a moment to examine our lives. Are we recognizing God’s compassion and forgiveness, and responding with gratitude and repentance? Are we trusting His promise to pardon sin and forgive transgression, and living in the freedom and joy of His forgiveness?

Some examples of God’s compassion and forgiveness include the story of David, who was forgiven and restored after his sin with Bathsheba, Apostle Paul, who was transformed from a persecutor of Christians to a passionate follower of Jesus and the woman caught in the act of adultery brought before Jesus to be stoned. We can apply these examples to our own lives by trusting God for guidance and provision, just as these individuals did.

For instance, we can recognize God’s forgiveness in our salvation, knowing that He saved us from sin and gave us eternal life. We can also extend God’s forgiveness to others, demonstrating compassion and kindness to those who have wronged us.

In times of struggle and hardship, we can remind ourselves of God’s compassion and forgiveness, trusting that He’ll continue to work all things for our good. We can also encourage one another, building each other up in our faith and love for God.

PRAYER: “Oh Lord, help me to recognize Your compassion and forgiveness, and to respond with gratitude and repentance. Give me the faith to trust Your promise to pardon sin and forgive transgression, and help me to live in the freedom and joy of Your forgiveness. Help me to extend Your forgiveness to others, demonstrating compassion and kindness to those who have wronged me. Amen.
