OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE

1 Samuel 15:22

Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams – 1 Samuel 15:22

One of the most difficult things for a carnal believer is obeying the dictates of the Spirit of God. It often doesn’t sound logical to follow but doing so is the gateway to peace and tranquility. As believers, we’re called to prioritize obedience to God’s Word over religious rituals and sacrifices.

This verse reminds us that God isn’t just interested in our outward actions, but in our hearts and our willingness to obey Him. Obedience is a demonstration of our love and trust in God, and it’s what He desires from us.

Let’s take a moment to examine our lives. Are we prioritizing obedience to God’s Word, or are we just going through the motions of religious rituals? Are we recognizing that true worship is not just about what we do, but about our hearts and our willingness to obey God?

Some examples of obedience being better than sacrifice include the story of Abraham, who obeyed God’s command to sacrifice Isaac, and the apostle Paul, who obeyed God’s call to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. We can apply these examples to our own lives by trusting God for guidance and provision, just as these individuals did.

For instance, we can prioritize obedience by seeking God’s guidance and wisdom in our decisions and circumstances. We can also trust God’s goodness and sovereignty, knowing that He’s working all things for our good, even when we don’t understand His ways.

In times of uncertainty and doubt, we can remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness and goodness, trusting that He’ll continue to work all things for our good. We can also encourage one another, building each other up in our faith and love for God.

Don’t forget, the devil will do anything to make you doubt the faithfulness of God. See it as distraction. Don’t allow him deceive you out of your garden of peace and joy. Don’t negotiate your peace for any prize and price?

PRAYER: “Oh Lord, help me to prioritize obedience to Your Word, and to trust Your goodness and sovereignty in all things. Give me the courage to obey Your voice, even when it’s hard or uncomfortable, and help me to recognize Your guidance and provision in my life. Help me to remember that true worship is not just about what I do, but about my heart and my willingness to obey You. Amen.”
