A JUST WEIGHT IS HIS DELIGHT
Proverbs 11: 1-9
It is quite puzzling how people, even Christians, find it convenient to cheat people. This occurs in every sphere of human endeavour – in business, contracts, workplace etc. To some it is being smart, fast or cool. As much as it may seem okay, the standard of the Lord remains the same. He hates dishonest scales. It is an abomination to Him.
When you cheat people, what you are doing is tipping the balance in your favour above others. It is a sin, which the Lord abhors. Philippians 2:3-4 puts it rightly: “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interest, but also for the interests of others”.
The scripture is not against making profit in dealings. But it is against using unfair edge against people. God blesses honesty and integrity. You must not engage in extortion, swindling, bribery, mischief, flattery, deceit etc. You should conduct your businesses with purity of heart. God is not only present in your Church and home. He is also a part of your workplace and He sees all your dealings. And when you are involved in any form of deception and deceit, He is not pleased with it because it is a misrepresentation of Him and His kingdom.
We all need to be careful in our everyday dealings to make sure we are not guilty of using dishonest scales (whatever it represents in your dealings). Always remember that God delights in those who are scrupulously honest in their dealings. Making profit is a great achievement but the turnover on your soul thereafter is a greater feat.
Memory Verse: “For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mathew 16:26).
PRAYER: Lord I align myself with just weights. I will not involve myself in shady deals nor cheat others.
