ALL YOU NEED IS GRACE VI
1 Samuel 16:6-13
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Psalm 51:5 (NKJV). Bible historians have told us that David was not a ‘legitimate’ son. We are told that David was not birthed by Jesse’s legitimate wife. If you study the scriptures you will realize that he was hated. He was an intruder as far as that family was concerned. How is it that he was the one having to look after the animals in a bush where lions and bears dwelt? And all his elder brothers were at home relaxing! It is obvious that the illegitimacy of his birth had positioned him for a life of dishonor, backwardness and obscurity.
When David arrived at the battlefield it was obvious that his brothers were bitter against him. It was obvious that David was not loved. Even when he was obedient, he was hated. After all, his father had sent him to provide for his brothers at the battlefield. So nothing he did was ever approved. They did not realize that he had endangered his own life by coming to the battlefield to bring them food. They were not grateful for his sacrifice and the risk he took to ensure their comfort.
David was not liked or loved. He was hated with passion. His siblings did not want to see him. He was a constant reminder of his father’s shameful conduct. But a drop of grace came! David’s story changed and nobody could argue with it. You cannot argue or compete with a person who walks in grace. Competing with such a person would only bring disgrace to your own life.
What was David’s experience with grace? What started the rollercoaster of God’s favour and the transformation of his story? One day, God troubled a man. God called Samuel to fulfill an assignment. There are people God will trouble because of you. Your director at work, somebody, somewhere will be troubled by God to bring a change to your story.
When Samuel asked Jesse to present his sons for one to be chosen, he didn’t consider David. None of his brothers remembered him. It is obvious how David was considered unqualified for the selection in his own home. But God is faithful! When He arises in your favour, your disqualifiers will be disqualified. You know the end of the story. This encounter with grace was the beginning of the rewriting of David’s story. May Grace rewrite your story for good. This new year, may you encounter grace everyday.
MEDITATION: All I need is just a drop of Grace!
