DISARMING THE ENEMY: THE ULTIMATE TRIUMPH OF THE CROSS
Colossians 2:9-15
The moment of the Crucifixion is often viewed primarily as an act of forgiveness that is the payment for our sins. While this is true, Colossians 2:15 reveals a deeper meaning: the Cross was also the ultimate strategic military manoeuvre that determined the fate of every spiritual battle we would ever face.
The scripture boldly proclaims that Christ “disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.” This means Jesus did not just win a victory; He enacted a complete disarmament. He stripped the enemy, the source of fear, shame, condemnation, and death, of his legal authority and his weapons.
Think about it: the arsenal that once held you captive, the lies that told of your inadequacy, the fear that paralysed your steps, the condemnation that sought to define you, were forcefully confiscated by Christ. The enemy is now left fighting with blunt matchets, relying solely on his power of deception. He can only hurt you if you voluntarily pick up the discarded weapons of shame and believe his expired threats.
When oppression looms or fear tries to take hold, remember this central reality: You are not facing an armed opponent; you are facing a disarmed foe. The Cross is not merely a historical event; it is the eternal symbol of your ultimate triumph. Stand in that reality today. Tetelestai, “it is finished” because Christ triumphed, your spiritual defence is absolute, and the enemy’s power over you is zero. The strife is o’er, the battle done; the victory of life is won; the song of triumph has begun, Alleluia!
PRAYER: I refuse to acknowledge a disarmed foe. Jesus stripped you of your power. I stand in His triumph.
