GET RID OF GRASSHOPPER MENTALITY
Proverbs 30:27
When we hear of grasshopper mentality, our minds quickly go to Numbers 13:33 when the spies sent by Moses to check out the land of Canaan came with their evil report saying: “…we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight”. They saw themselves as little not as God saw them. There is however positive characteristics of a grasshopper, which we should imbibe to be better Christians.
Grasshoppers demonstrate the power of working together for a common cause. What they cannot achieve individually, they are able to accomplish united. When a grasshopper joins forces with other grasshoppers, it can do all kinds of damage to the extent of utterly destroying entire vegetation. Remember the eighth plague in Egypt (Exodus 10:1-20).
The lesson for us as followers of Christ is to join forces together in order to advance the course of the Kingdom. If we are united in serving the Lord, barring denominational differences, we become a mighty force for God in fulfilling His purposes on earth. Even though the grasshoppers don’t have a king, yet they unite for a common cause. “Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalms 133:1). The grasshopper mentality inspires unity, which in the long run will be to the advantage of the Church that is the body of Christ.
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves, as the manner of some is…” (Hebrews 10:24-25). Let’s enjoy and contribute to the strength and fellowship of the unified body of Christ.
Memory Verse: “And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they beginj to do: now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do” (Genesis11:6).
PRAYER: Pray for unity in your local assembly as well as the entire Body of Christ.
