GRACE AND HUMILITY
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty and before honour is humility, Proverbs 18:12.
You have so much to gain by being humble. Being humble does not mean you are stupid, or that you do not know your worth. Humility is seeing things in God’s way, even when you can do otherwise. It is not much of bowing down of the head, but bowing of one’s heart to God’s instructions. To be humble is to be God-conscious. God has a lot of regards for those who are humble in spirit. He places them on the pedestal of grace and recognition which does not attract envy and resentment; but help and favour.
Today we live in a world that people are so concerned about titles and honours they can acquire by their intellects and connections to put them in positions of reference where everybody would be deferring to them. They don’t care how they attain the heights. Whether it comes by hook or crook is not their primary concern as long as they get there and can boast of their attainments. Every position you get to in life and you allowed it to get to your head; it is just a matter of time; you will soon fizzle out. It is what God does that lasts forever.
It is better to humble yourself before God than to allow God to humble you. Remember Nebuchadnezzar? He boasted of his power before God and he was taught the lesson of his life that he can never forget. His word: …..is not this great Babylon; that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power for the honour of my majesty [Daniel 4: 30]
For that arrogance of Nebuchadnezzar, God humbled him by transforming him into a beast to dwell amongst animals in the forest for seven years. Refuse to allow worldly attainment get to your head because it is disastrous.
MEMORY VERSE: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith; God resisteth the proud but give more grace unto the humble [James 4:6].
PRAYER: Take away every trace of pride in my life O Lord and give me the grace to live in humility in Jesus Name.
