GUARD YOUR UTTERANCES
Ecclesiastes 5: 1-7
King Solomon, one of the preachers of old and a very wise king admonished that many believers who try to find satisfaction in religion do not find it because they lay more emphasis on religiosity than being attentive to the words of God. Christianity is a way of life. A Christian must not only be in Christ but his life must also portray Godly disposition.
Believers are urged not to take decisions under the stress of emotions. Eccl 5 :2 says be not rash with your mouth, and let not your heart be hasty to utter anything before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore, let your words be few. You must be cautious to make a vow with your mouth and fulfilling the vow. Fulfilling the vow must not even be postponed or delayed having already proclaimed it with your mouth. So, let your words be few that you may not be classified as a fool because of the multitude of your words.
It is also important that believers must be careful of their utterances when they are angry, frustrated or disappointed. Many times, while venting our angry emotions, we say things that we later regret. Note that when anger arises, hold your tongue. The anger will fade but harsh words can leave lasting scars. Speak kindly or stay quiet.
Prov 13:3 says – Those who guard their lips preserve their lives but those who speak rashly come to ruin. Also, Prov 21:23 says those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity. Always wait until your judgement is clear and you can think things out before you speak.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to bridle my tongue that I might not sin against you, in Jesus name. Amen.
