THE LAW OF FULFILMENT
2 Timothy 4:6-8
Fulfilment is the process of living a valued life, where one pursues things that matter to them or that they are passionate about. An effective way to begin living more authentically is to envision the life you want and identify the elements that energise you and make you happy. While happiness is not the goal, but a by-product of a life well lived, you can still build happy memories with lasting impact.
Every night when you retire to bed to sleep, you should be doing so with a huge smile knowing you had a good day doing what you love doing. Being fulfilled starts with completing a task, as simple as laying your bed after you get up from bed. When you step back from your work you should be proud of the work you’ve done.
Fulfilment comes a lot from operating within your purpose or finding what you love doing and doing it with all your might. One question you should always ask yourself after every day is ‘’Have I earned my keep today’’? If your answer to that question isn’t a resounding yes, then you should work towards being able to answer in the affirmative. Another sure way of finding fulfilment in yourself or what you do is by embracing excellence. No matter what your hand find to do, you can determine to do it really well. Take extra pain to cross the “T”s and dot the “I”s. Pride yourself in going the extra mile in such a way that you’re sure no one else will surpass you in terms of effort. Then fulfilment is definitely going to be something you’ll enjoy often.
Ask yourself three questions: who am I? What do I stand for? And who would I like to be? If you can visualise this person, try to be this person. If you can pinpoint what you want to do, spend more time doing these things. And if you know who you love, make an effort to love them. Instead of fixating on status, wealth or material possession, think about your personal legacy (Luke 12:15). Consider what you will like people to remember and say about you when you are gone. By answering this question, we gain perspective on the value of our lives and what is most important.
While you are still living, focus on becoming that version of yourself. It is never too late to begin authoring a truly meaningful life. Doing the following will help you find fulfilment in life: identify who you really are, let go of unpleasant experiences, practice empathy and compassion, take care of yourself first, find meaning at work, be selective about your relationships, never stop learning, seek help from professionals, give generously to others and practice gratitude.
