THE LAW OF SATISFACTION
Psalms 23:1-6
It is possible for someone to have all the things of this world and yet still not be satisfied. Wealth, fame, fortune and possession do not bring satisfaction. Satisfaction is the state of being contented, the feeling that one’s needs or wants will be met no matter what. Contentment that comes not from the fact that you have it all but from the assurance that what you desire will be taken care of. If you are contented, you are satisfied with your circumstances. You are not complacent, yet you are not anxious about anything because of the assurance you have in God that all your needs shall be satisfied. It takes you to the point that you do not envy those people who have what you desire.
To be satisfied means you are not desperately yearning for what you do not have. When our hunger is satisfied, we don’t want any more food. When our thirst is satisfied, we don’t crave more water. When we are in right relationship with God, our souls are satisfied. “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalms 73:25-26).
Satisfaction does not mean that you should not be ambitious. No. It is not the absence of desire. It rather means you are satisfied with your present, and you trust that the turns your life takes will be for the best. In fact, it is important to want to be better than what you were yesterday, to work to live a better life. But satisfaction is being happy with what you have, who you are, and where you are, appreciating and respecting the reality of what you have and where you are presently (in life).
It is the desire of God to satisfy you. “…I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him My salvation” (Psalm 91:15-16). The Psalmist, appreciating the importance of satisfaction prayed: “O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days” (Psalms 90:14). When you are satisfied, you have peace of mind that surpasses human understanding so much that when you do not have enough, you are not afraid. Satisfaction brings joy, no matter what the situation is. And above all, it builds stronger relationship with people as you are not envious of the achievement of others, you are rather genuinely happy for them, trusting that God will make yours happen. You have the assurance that no matter what happens today, the sun will rise again tomorrow. Satisfaction is showing gratitude for what God has done for you. If you are not contented with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it is doubled.
MEDITATION: Godliness with contentment is great gain.
