THE LAW OF SEASONS
Ecclesiastes 3:1-10
Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” (Daniel 2:20-22 NIV).
Life is ruled by times and seasons. Just as seasons represent different weather conditions in a calendar year; seasons in the life of humans represent times in our existence, and they are integral to our life experience. God ordained the seasons we are in; He places us in this world, in these times and in these season.
The contemporary world has seasons which determines human activities; so also seasons in the life of a man determines what he should do during those seasons. Recognizing the seasons in the life of a man is as important as knowing what to do in those seasons. During the dry season, when it seems like nothing is happening, that is the correct season for preparation. The season when you sharpen your tools, horn your skills. It is during the season of preparation that you source for your best seeds. You don’t want the season of planting to meet you unprepared.
There is also the season of sowing, a very important season. In the order of things if you miss this season you definitely know that you’re sitting out the season of harvest. Season of sowing is the season of giving, the season of serving, it’s the season of following. These seasons come with seeming discomfort and advantages too, you need to learn what the season demands and act accordingly. King Solomon informs us that if we cooperate with God’s purposes and timing, life will not be meaningless. Everything, even the most difficult experiences of life will be “beautiful in its time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
No matter the season we find ourselves in, it is vital to fully engage with it and embrace it. Also clinging to a season long can have adverse effects. We need to be “season sensitive” in how we live our lives. We also need to explore our season; understand its characteristics, and make necessary adjustments to get the best out of it. Enlist the help of those who may have gone through the same thing you are going through now or those in a different season who can offer you encouragement.
Lastly, esteem your season. Recognise that God is in control (Romans 8:28 NIV). Enjoy the season you are in. Do not despise it, do not run from it, do not have a bad attitude about it. Instead, pray that God will show you why He has placed you there and what He wants you to do so as to work out His purpose in that season.
REFLECTION: Am I conversant with my seasons? Do I manage the seasons as I ought? 1 Chronicles 12:32.
