THE LAW OF VISION: II

Genesis 13:14-18

You are familiar with the story in our text. Abram and Lot had issues that eventually led to separation. After Lot chose the better location and departed thence, God spoke to Abram: “Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever”. God hereby introduced Abram to the law of vision. If you want it, you must first “see” it.

Great men are dreamers, Woodrow Wilson said, ‘‘We grow great by dreams”. Vision is the ability to picture your future. The story of Walt Disney, the owner of Disneyland, is a very captivating one and a great example of visioning. He began his career as a cartoonist for a high school newspaper. His first adventure resulted in Bankruptcy. Afterwards, he moved to Kansas City for his second enterprise, drawing cartoon strips and advertisements in a studio. When he couldn’t make headway, he packed up his things and moved to California with a one-way ticket. On His way, he envisioned a mouse character that he originally named Mortimer which was later renamed ‘‘Mickey’’ by his wife. Today, Mickey Mouse is virtually in every household, years after Walt has been long gone. There is no child that does not know Mickey Mouse. Before he died in 1966, he had produced seventy movies. The power of vision!

Vision is the capacity to see beyond barriers and limitations. It is a glimpse of purpose, a preferred future, a description of your destiny. Your Vision determines your destiny. It causes you to stay true and authentic to who God has called you to be. Your provision is embedded in your vision. The New Living Translation of Proverbs 28:18 captures it this way: “When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.”  In order words, where there is a lack of understanding of the divine guidance within God’s revelation, there will be a lack of purpose. God put you here for a purpose. It is very important that you discover that purpose in order to live a fulfilling life. It is your responsibility to discover that purpose (vision) and work relentlessly towards making it a reality. If there is a law on vision, it will read thus: No vision, no provision, no future.

The importance of vision cannot be over emphasized, without a clear vision you won’t even know where you’re going or what exactly you want. Without a vision, everything thing looks like it. For instance, if you’re not clear on the vision you have for the kind of job you want, you will end up doing any type of job you’re offered weather it suits you or whether you’re equipped to do it. Same way, if you don’t have a clear vision for the kind of patner you want, you will date every Tom, Dick and Harry that comes your way. Structure your life around your vision.

MEDITATION – You can’t live in a future you can’t picture.
