TELL THE TRUTH
Proverbs 12: 17-23
People lie effortlessly without having to think about it. It just comes out, naturally. It is a skill we acquire by ourselves as human beings. We are not taught. As regenerated souls, we must live in the consciousness of the fact that we are required to tell the truth always because we have been redeemed and adopted by God, our Father: “Lie not to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds” (Colossians 3:9). The devil, who rules and reigns over darkness is the father of all lies. So, if you as a child of God are still caught in the web of telling lies, you are simply saying the devil is your father.
A lie is a lie no matter the name given to it – convenient lies or white lies. All those sophisticated names are deceit from the pit of hell to condone lies. A lie is what it is: an intentional distortion of reality, to affect the perception or actions of other people. It is a characteristic of the old human nature of sin and should not be mentioned among believers. All it promotes is self – self-protection, self-promotion, self-possession. It is self-centered. When you lie, you are glorifying yourself and not God. This is quite dangerous as God does not take lightly anyone sharing His glory with Him.
It is a violation of God’s nature, no matter the temporary “triumph” acquired through lying. We serve a God who cannot lie and we should totally put away falsehood from among us and speak the truth (Ephesians 4:25). Righteousness and lies do not go together. “He who speaks the truth declares righteousness” (Verse 17). Telling the truth is a sign that you truly belong to the Kingdom of your Heavenly Father.
Memory Verse: “Lord, who may abide in your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, and works righteously, and speaks the truth in his heart” (Psalm 15:1-2).
PRAYER: Lord baptize my lips to speak the truth always.
