PUTTING GOD’S GRACE TO WORK III.
2 Kings 3:11-14
In our passage of today, we read of the story of Elisha who was the servant of Elijah. The Bible described him as the man that ‘poured water on the hands of the man of God’. At a stage in his life, the grace of God came upon his life to move him from just being the servant of Elijah to becoming a first-class prophet himself. One of the things that happens to a man when the grace of God comes upon his life is that he receives the ability to function fully in what God has called him to become.
God has released his grace to shape us into becoming what he has in mind for us. From the foundation of our lives God has a master plan for each and every one of us (Jeremiah 29:11). However, we do not just wake up one day and enter into the fullness of God’s program for our lives. Rather, we grow into it gradually from time to time especially as we expose ourselves to His grace. In our text of today, the man Elisha was originally a farmer. But when God wanted to show him the purpose for which he was created, he sent Elijah to go and put his mantle upon his shoulder where he was ploughing with several yokes of oxen.
The Bible says Elisha did not disobey. He quickly left that business of farming and went to follow the servant of God and served him for several years. And as he was serving him, he was contacting grace. Ultimately, when it was time for the ministry to be transferred to him, the Bible said he followed his master on a journey. And the master did a number of things to discourage him from following him. But because he was committed to obtaining grace and becoming what God had in mind for him, he never wavered.
He continued until he crossed Jordan with his master. And as his master was taken away from him, he received the mantle. He prayed a prayer of desire that God will give him the double portion of the Spirit of God upon his master. And God answered his prayer. That grace came upon him and he became a miracle worker right after. So in life, one of the things that we must desire that grace does in our life is to enable us to become the fullness of what God has in mind for us to be in life.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, I pray today that your grace will work in me to transform me into the person that you have designed me to be, that I may be able to fulfil fully your call upon my life.
